Intellectual Property

"What has happened to us is every inventor/entrepreneurs worst nightmare - having your idea stolen" Jean Golden - co-creator of US television hit Million Dollar Idea

Intellectual Property (IP) is a term used to describe the product of an idea - an invention, design, brand name or original creation. Just as there are laws against theft, there are also laws to protect Intellectual Property - it's not just about Patents!

Do you have a logo, a recognisable name or brand? Do you manufacture, create, design, invent, write, take pictures or video, write software? Whatever your business - and no matter its size - it is likely you generate IP.

There are four main categories of IP rights:-

Patents

Patents protect what makes things work - like what makes a light bulb glow or the chemical formula of your favourite fizzy drink.

Trade Marks

Trade marks are symbols that distinguish goods and services in the marketplace and stop others using them - like logos and brand names.

Designs

Designs are what something looks like - from the shape of a milk carton to the body of a car.

Copyright

Copyright applies when original work is written, drawn or recorded - including software on a computer

To take full advantage of these rights you need to take certain steps. Some rights must be registered, others not. All attract varying periods and degrees of protection.

We will help you to identify and protect your rights so that you can exploit them for maximum commercial gain. Your Business is unique we can protect it.
