Most people have heard of this legislation and for HR managers it adds yet more complexity in an already demanding area of the business. The rules are complex and offer the potential to expose the unwary employer to tribunal claims for a range of issues that hitherto may have not been considered relevant to their workforce.
Procedures for interviewing potential employees, terms of engagement, working conditions and employment contracts must all be reviewed in light of these changes.
Who have we employed?!!The extent of these changes transcends the standard HR conventions. They place a burden on the employer to audit their employees’ working environment in a way that has hitherto been unnecessary. No longer is the interview process alone capable of determining suitability of candidate for the work required by the business.
The emphasis must now be on careful monitoring during the probation period in the workplace.
